President's Report

Hi – Happy Monday and Happy April Fool’s Day!

This was another weekend of a lot of sunshine, but not enough temperature. Hey, at least there is no historic snowstorm on deck like there was in April 2018. We are going to cross our fingers that things get warmer and we all have our windshield scrapers put away in the next few weeks.

This past month was a huge success for our annual Twin Cities NACE Education conference. We have collected survey results (thank you to everyone who took the 4 minutes to send us feedback – you have no idea how much it helps) and know what to keep and what to change for 2020’s conference.

Here is a short but sweet list of what you need to know this month about Twin Cities NACE:


There is a HUGE membership drive happening – which means HUGE benefit for you if you have been waiting for a good time to add another membership at your company. The details from the promotion are below:

Spring Membership Campaign Details

Dates: March 18 – April 30, 2019

Promotion: 15 months of membership for the price of 12 and a free gift!

Restrictions: Valid for new members (professional, corporate, non-profit, and young professionals) only or members who have lapsed for a year or more.

Twin Cities NACE is offering scholarships to the NACE Experience conference for members + associate members. Details on the specifics are being shared at the monthly meeting on 4/3, and will be emailed out to all on Friday 4/5. The application is DUE on 4/19 so mark your calendar now to make sure you set aside time to complete the application process. (I am really good at waiting until the last minute on stuff like this – which I always regret.)


NACE Experience 2019 registration is live! Registration for the 2019 NACE Experience Conference, taking place July 14-17 at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, is now open! Hotel rooms will be available at a discounted rate through the NACE room block until the room block is sold out (and we've sold out every year!) or by June 14. So, don't delay! Reserve your hotel room today.

Just a reminder that submissions for NACE ONE Awards are due April 16. No deadline extensions will be given, so get those submissions finalized for all eligible chapter and industry awards. You can’t win if you don’t submit! Additional details:


We would love to feature events that our members are doing each month as a way to learn from each other and see the creativity happening around the Twin Cities NACE community. If you would like to have your event featured in next month’s newsletter please email 2-3 photos with a paragraph description of the event.

We look forward to seeing you all at our Historic Venue Panel program on Wednesday. Thank you for being so understanding about our need to relocate venues on such short notice. ** Reminder: We will be hosting at The Van Dusen Mansion! ** May’s event will be a lunch time education meeting at Mystic Lake Center (Mystic Lake Casino Hotel) which is where I work! I can’t wait to have you all over to my “house”!

You’re a careful listener who “gets” the client’s event needs at first telling. And for those unsure of their needs, your experience enables skillful guidance known to eclipse expectations. Your reputation and networking efforts make you the “go-to” for event planning. Then, a Catering Sales Manager position with Interstate might just be the go-to opportunity that takes your career to the next level.

As Catering Sales Manager, you will

  • Use your knowledge of the hotel’s offerings and the competitive landscape to secure event and group business that meets or exceeds sales and revenue goals.
  • Solicit, negotiate and book new and repeat clients using multiple channels, such as social media, outside calls, and telemarketing.
  • Capture the client’s vision and effectively convey the specifications to appropriate departments, rapidly responding to inquiries, concerns, and issues, ensuring an exceptional client experience and seeding future bookings.
  • Keep management informed of activities through regular reporting.
  • Fundamentals

A four-year college degree is not required; however, more than two years post high school education with one to two years employment in a related position is required. Thorough knowledge of catering, food and beverage, and the hospitality industry is expected. You must possess effective verbal and written English communication skills. This position also requires an ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
